Am i ready to go hunting with air rifle.....?
Im pretty new to the whole hunting game, But what i want to know is Do you guys who has vast experience in hunting rabbits ETC think i could be ready.... Ive read in some forums that if i can shoot a 2 penny peice 4/5 times your ready, Well like i said im new to all this but at 20 feet standing i can shoot a 2 pence piece 2/5 but at prone with bipod i can shoot it 5/5 lol although i do miss now and again, should i be confident and use my GFs mother farm or maybe practice some more, my rifle is SMK 19 lol.... thanks in advance.
Experience is onley gained by having a go.
If your a competent and confident shot, which it sounds like you are then you have nothing to loos , give it a go.
Hear is a sanario for you and this will tell you if your ready.
You see a rabbit and take your shot, unfortunately you onley paralyse it the rabbit is calling out in distress, have you got what it takes to go and humanely finish the job ( ie brake its neck)
Rabbits are a growin pest over hear in the uk so some times when there is a mass population they are shot to keep the numbers down (carcases left lying)
Though in my eyes what ever you hunt you should be able to dispatch humanely if necessary, gut and skin and even eat , if edible with acceptations of course. Then your a hunter,
Remember to have respect in what you do not onley for your self but for your pray,,
Its not the calliber of the rifle thats important but the calliber of the man.
You say your there is a farm in your partners family (lucky) well should you get into hunting i give you 2mins befor you down the air rifle and go for something bigger.
Good luck
I have included the BASC code of practice for you to brows through , it will offer help and advice

Art of the Rifle $31.98 "Pick up a rifle and you change instantly from a subject to a citizen," says author Jeff Cooper. That is especially true now with fresh assaults on our freedoms and liberty from foreign and domestic sources. But before a rifle can be a tool of power, you must know how to use it well. Armed forces have almost abandoned the idea of serious riflecraft, and with the increasing urbanization of the world, fewer people grow up honing their rifle skills. It is time to set forth the art of the rifle before it becomes a thing of the past and something very important is lost forever. And what better person to do this than Jeff Cooper? He is America's foremost rifle instructor, the founder of Gunsite Ranch and the International Pistol Institute and the author of several classic books. In this special color edition, Jeff includes a new introduction and a new chapter on the Scout, as well as bringing you up to date on everything you need to know about the rifle, whether you intend to use it for securing meat, destroying enemies on the battlefield, protecting yourself and your family, shooting targets or resisting tyranny. He also entertains you with rousing tales of marksmanship, combat and big-game hunting all over the world. This is a book that you will treasure for years to come from America's most esteemed firearms master. |
