bows and arrow How does the damage compare from a bow and arrow/crossbow to a gun?
Obviously everyone knows the strength of a gun, and how much damage it does (depending on the cartridge size). I was wondering, how does the damage of an actual bow and arrow OR a crossbow (not one of those shitty home made ones) compare to a gun. This is just out of curiosity because I went to a store and saw some of those EXTREMELY sharp bolts and tips and I couldn't imagine the damage it does.
And I'm also wondering for hunting purposes.
The end result is the same. Both methods are deadly. But they use two different methods to kill game. The bullet kills by tissue damage and shock. An arrow kills by causing an animal to bleed to death in most cases. If an arrow does not hit a vital organ or major blood vessels the deer will survive and live another day.

medieval quivers Acessories for a costume? I need boots?
For Renaissance festival this year I want to go as a female archer (they had those in medieval times, right?) - I found this costume
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/4113AM65G5L._AA280_.jpg
which I can alter the bottom to make it work, but I need some cool brown boots, a quiver and bow - also maybe an arm guard.
Do you know of any good sites that can help me? Maybe good stores to get boots from - or ones that match?
I really like your outfit. For brown boots to match your costume, I would definetly suggest going to:

Well i am going to start archery and i was at cabelas. the guy reccomended some bows and i went to the range to shoot. on the arrows there, the nock did not align with any feather and the odd feather would go out(the correct way). what i mean by not aligning is that if you would hook it on the bowstring no fletching would go directly up or down, as the odd feather was PERPENDICULAR to the odd feather. i then got the exact same arrows and when i started attaching the tips at home, i realized that on these arrows the nock aligned with the odd feather. should i go get this fixed or should i put the odd side up or down (remember the nock ALIGNS with the odd feather)? and i can't return them because the guy at cabelas cut them down to my draw length
The shop should have covered this with you. The "odd feather" is called the cock vain. How the knock is aligned to the cock vain depends on what type of rest your bow uses. If the arrow rests pretty much against the face of the riser on the bow your cock vain needs to be out. Some rests, the "Bowdoodle" line for one, require the cock vain to be down. On "Whisper biscuit" type rests it doesn't matter. On most arrows today the knock can be turned. If you twist and turn on it too much you can wear out the teeth that engage between the knock and the arrow to the point where a knock will no longer hold in place. I would highly recommend taking a bowhunter education course to pick up this type of basic information.

Unusual for its time, this 1955 film is a sympathetic treatment of the U.S. Army's resettlement of Native Americans in the Old West. The Cheyenne tribe agrees to leave its hunting grounds in Wyoming so that white settlers looking for gold can move in. Colonel Lindsay (John Lund) is in charge of the troops carrying out the resettlement journey. He is helped by an experienced land surveyor, John Tanner (Robert Wagner). Cheyenne tribesmen Little Dog (Jeffrey Hunter) and American Horse (Hugh O'Brian) are friends with Tanner and helpful in the resettlement -- at least until Little Dog's fiancée, Appearing Day (Debra Paget), takes a liking to Tanner. The attraction threatens to scuttle everything, and the tribe sends an arrow with a white feather as a declaration of war. Tanner convinces tribal leader Chief Broken Hand (Eduard Franz) to allow the men to settle the matter themselves. ~ Michael Betzold, All Movie Guide
