bows and arrow How does the damage compare from a bow and arrow/crossbow to a gun?
Obviously everyone knows the strength of a gun, and how much damage it does (depending on the cartridge size). I was wondering, how does the damage of an actual bow and arrow OR a crossbow (not one of those shitty home made ones) compare to a gun. This is just out of curiosity because I went to a store and saw some of those EXTREMELY sharp bolts and tips and I couldn't imagine the damage it does.
And I'm also wondering for hunting purposes.
The end result is the same. Both methods are deadly. But they use two different methods to kill game. The bullet kills by tissue damage and shock. An arrow kills by causing an animal to bleed to death in most cases. If an arrow does not hit a vital organ or major blood vessels the deer will survive and live another day.

Using only a few simple, but well-chosen words, a small child expresses clearly what she does--and does not--want through the course of a day. Her independent spirit emerges as she firmly says no to a dress, a pair of shoes, a nap. By the time European conquistadores and colonizers arrived in the Americas, starting in 1492, American Indians had already invented sophisticated hunting and fishing technology. They gathered hundreds of plants for food, fiber, and medicine, and first domesticated three-quarters of the food crops raised in the world today. Food, Farming, and Hunting covers the many contributions that American Indians have made throughout history, including the various tools used in hunting, such as bolas, bows and arrows, and camouflage, and the different methods of fishing for each culture. The volume identifies the many foods North American, Mesoamerican, and South American Indians gathered, discusses the birth of agriculture in the Americas, and describes the plants that were eventually domesticated and farmed. Later developments and improvements in farming, such as irrigation and the use of fertilizer, are also covered.

bow and arrow hunting i got a hunting bow and arrow and its about 3 ft long and it camufluage how far will it possibly shoot at full?
i have never even held a bow and arrow before and thats why im asking this question but i have one in lay away at a pawn shop that i bought
its an adult bow and arrow
its an adult bow and arrow
Well being that it is "camufluage" and all, I'd estimate somewhere between 7 inches and 42 miles.
How tall it is, and what color it is doesn't matter to anything. To even take a guess you would have to know if it's an adult or a childs bow, how heavy an arrow and most important, what the draw weight is. An adults hunting bow will fling an arrow for a couple - three hundred yards if all you're after is how far it can shoot.

Kyudo-the Way of the Bow-is the oldest of Japan's traditional martial arts and the one most closely associated with bushido, the Way of the Warrior. After the Second World War Eugen Herrigel introduced the concept of kyudo to the West in his classic Zen in the Art of Japanese Archery. Butuntil now, no Japanese kyudo master has published a book on his art in English. In Kyudo: The Essence and Practice of Japanese Archery, Hideharu Onuma and his American co-authors, Dan and Jackie DeProspero, explain in detail both the spiritual and practical aspects of kyudo. Written with both novices and advanced students in mind, the book is presented in simple, straightforward language and features hundreds of detailed illustrations, supplemented by rare photographs of Master Onuma, clearly demonstrating the fundamental techniques and daily practice of this form of standing Zen. Including chapters on equipment and kyudojo construction, Kyudo: The Essence and Practice of Japanese Archery is the most comprehensive reference work on the subject available. Special sections on problem solving and shitsu (errors) also make it a unique teaching and learning resource, and theconcluding shiteimondo (teacher-student dialogue) provides unparalleled insights into the thoughts and teachings of a true master of the martial arts.
I'm 17 years old, 5'11" tall, and 175-185 lbs. I don't know this is beneficial or not but I can do 10-20 pushups in a row. I have high stamina.I want a good recurve bow that has a drawweight of about 35-55 lbs. Now I don't know how tall a bow should I get for example 62". At the range the guys there had me shooting a 66" recurve bow with a 20# drawweight. I'm comfortable with it but I want a bit more drawweight. I need help finding a bow that's set up already as in I don't have to buy the riser and limbs seperately. I've been searching around and mostly that's what I'm finding, seperate parts. I'm kind of on a budget so the most I'll spend for a bow is 160$. Can anyone help me find what I'm looking for? I would really appreciate it.
The two bows I have to know which you would prefer is the:
1. PSE optima recurve bow 66" 35#
2. Martin Jaguar takedown recurve bow 40# or 50#.
I like both these bows and are around the same price. Which would be better for me?
Between those two I would suggest the Martin Jaguar, mostly because I tend to like the feel of Martins a bit better and I think that in the long run the Martin may grow with you better. I'm inclined as well to say that if you are relatively serious about getting into this sport you should get the higher end of what you can tolerate on weight and grow into it. So, I'd be inclined to go to the 50# model. With you being 17 you've got time to continue to develop the strength to shoot that comfortably.
